” It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities” Albus Dumbledore

While in London we had the chance to visit the Warner Brothers Studio for Harry Potter. What an experience! If you are a fan of the Harry Potter movies this is a must. The studio was very detailed and had just about every prop that you can think of from all of the movies while also showing how they did some of the magic from the movies. Continue reading
On this day the sun was shining bright and I knew this would be an amazing evening to visit Neist Point. I’ve seen pictures online and knew this was somewhere I wanted to stop given the opportunity. The roads are so skinny in Scotland, so much so that we had to pull over every time a car was coming in the opposite direction. We did lots of hiking and this was just a short walk to get to the lighthouse, about 45 minutes round trip. Neist point is located on the North Western portion of the Isle of Skye and takes about 45 minutes to get to from Portree which is one of the main towns on the island.
A Photographer Taking a Picture of the Sunset
The back side of Ben Nevis
While in Fort William, we wanted to hike up Ben Nevis. Ben Nevis is 4,409ft above sea level and is the highest mountain in the British Isles. It is in the western area of the Scottish Highlands. It takes about 2.5 hours to get to from Glasgow. The back side of Ben Nevis is pictured above. At the bottom of this post we have included some tips for those of you planning to climb this mountain.
Isle of Skye is a true masterpiece of nature. The landscape, the beautiful hikes and walks, the roaring waves. You could easily spend a week on this isle. One outing particularly stands out to me – Talisker Beach. After about a 20 minute walk through a pathway and past a house, you will find this quiet beach with a breathtaking view. Our goal was to be there for sunset, and it was a beautiful sunset.
Kynance Cove in the Lizard Peninsula
Before our trip to England, a bunch of friends told me to enjoy the rain because there wouldn’t be much sunshine. I said to myself you know rain is actually better than snow. You see, this year in Canada winter decided to stick around until the latter part of April. With months of cold temperatures and snowy days, I was beginning to think of England as a tropical destination and while it might not have tropical temperatures it might be nicer than Canada was at the time. I was correct and extremely happy about it. From the time we touched down we were in short sleeves and enjoying the sunshine in the region of Cornwall.
If you are a fan of Harry Potter, this is a must see castle (featured in the first film). If you are a fan of history, this is a must see castle. If you are a fan of castles, this is definitely a must see castle. I mean really, need I say more… let me introduce you to the beautiful Alnwick Castle.
If there is one thing you will notice while visiting the United Kingdom….. Castles, Castles, and more Castles!
I was reading an article last week that said there were over 700 castles in Whales alone. I was baffled by this, since I’ve only seen a small fraction of them.
