A Castle in the Hills: Kylemore Abbey

Kylemore Abbey

The Connemara region of Ireland is perhaps one of the most beautiful regions of the world. Honestly, I didn’t realize this until I saw it with my own eyes. In the midst of all of the big hills they have, is Kylemore Abbey. This castle is stunning. While I was researching some of the destinations we would cover during our trip to Ireland, I remember putting a star beside this one. While it isn’t quite like the castles you would see in Old Europe, it is still quite unique and definitely worth a visit.  Continue reading

5 Reasons Why We Love Hiking

1. Nature
When you make an effort to get out on a trail you are rewarded by being surrounded by some amazing nature. Forests, mountain tops, Sea lines, Canyons are just a few of the areas that we have hiked through. Each area has its own unique flavour and no two areas in the world are ever replicated. That is mother natures gift to us. All we have to do is get out and enjoy it and make sure that humans don’t destroy it.

A day at Nymphenburg Palace in Munich Germany

One of the things that I came to enjoy while visiting Germany was touring their castles and palaces. There are many of them and they are very grand and detailed. While we were in Munich we decided to spend a day visiting the Nymphenburg Palace. The grounds require a lot of walking if you want to see everything, so leave yourself lots of time and wear walking shoes.

Visiting Hatley Castle near Victoria, British Columbia

Hatley Castle is a short drive from Victoria, BC and is on the campus of Royal Roads University. I must admit one of our main reasons for making this stop on our west coast visit was that I used to watch the TV show Smallville. Hatley Castle was Lex Luthor’s mansion in the TV show and being a huge fan of the show I had to stop by and see it first hand.

A Scenic Drive through Arizona

One of the things I like to do the most when travelling is taking road trips. Road trips allow you to see things that you wouldn’t get to see if you stayed in a major city hub. You can travel at your own pace, stop whenever you want, and spend more or less time at a location. This is one of the major reasons we often try to see things independently without a tour group.

When we visited Arizona and Utah we were treated to some really nice scenery. Here are a few of the photos I was able to capture while on our road trip. I was surprised at the beauty of the landscapes in Arizona about a couple hours beyond the Grand Canyon.

The Birds of the Pacific Northwest Raptor Show!!!

About 50 minutes from Victoria, BC on Vancouver Island is the city of Duncan. I had researched the Pacific Northwest Raptors a while back and knew that this was something that I wanted to see. I mean, who doesn’t want to see birds of prey!!!

We were lucky that we went on a weekday in early September because I imagine it gets really busy in the summer. There were many exhibits around the site, but what I was really looking forward to was the bird show. I’ve never seen one and spend so much time watching nature shows, I was very excited.

The Scenic Grand Canyon

The Grand Canyon is one of the most spectacular places that I’ve been to. We drove out from Vegas and it took a little over 4 hours to get there. If you are into wildlife, landscapes and natural wonders you must visit this place at least once in your lifetime.

Horseshoe Bend in Page Arizona

As part of the Colorado River tour we went around Horseshoe bend in our raft.  However, you really appreciate the beauty (and the depth) of this attraction when you visit it from the top of the canyon.

It is a horseshoe shaped meander in the Colorado River.  This section of the river is near the town of Page, Arizona.  It is about a fifteen minute drive from town.  It is a short hike over a hill and across the red rock and sand.  As there is no shade it is good to visit early in the morning or later in the afternoon when the sun is not so hot.
