On this day the sun was shining bright and I knew this would be an amazing evening to visit Neist Point. I’ve seen pictures online and knew this was somewhere I wanted to stop given the opportunity. The roads are so skinny in Scotland, so much so that we had to pull over every time a car was coming in the opposite direction. We did lots of hiking and this was just a short walk to get to the lighthouse, about 45 minutes round trip. Neist point is located on the North Western portion of the Isle of Skye and takes about 45 minutes to get to from Portree which is one of the main towns on the island.
Every Canada day weekend in July Charlene and I drive up north to spend some time camping in the woods. We have done it for 5 years now and it has become a tradition. Algonquin Park is without a doubt one of our favourite parks because of the wildlife and the quiet time we get while camping deep in the woods. Continue reading
Before our trip to England, a bunch of friends told me to enjoy the rain because there wouldn’t be much sunshine. I said to myself you know rain is actually better than snow. You see, this year in Canada winter decided to stick around until the latter part of April. With months of cold temperatures and snowy days, I was beginning to think of England as a tropical destination and while it might not have tropical temperatures it might be nicer than Canada was at the time. I was correct and extremely happy about it. From the time we touched down we were in short sleeves and enjoying the sunshine in the region of Cornwall.
If there is one thing you will notice while visiting the United Kingdom….. Castles, Castles, and more Castles!
I was reading an article last week that said there were over 700 castles in Whales alone. I was baffled by this, since I’ve only seen a small fraction of them.
I can now say that The Isle of Skye is one of the most scenic regions of the world that I’ve been to. If you love the outdoors… the Isle of Skye is a must. Mountains, greenery and rock formations galore make this region unlike any other. The one tip I’d give anyone visiting is make sure you allocate a good amount of time because there are so many hiking trails and things to do on this Island. The weather doesn’t always cooperate, so you end up doing things when you can and not when you plan to. Lesson Learned.
On Wednesday we are embarking on a Spring adventure to the United Kingdom. We are really excited about it. We have been to London and the Cotswolds once before. But we are going to visit some of the other places that we didn’t get a chance to see the first time. As you can see by the map below…. we are starting in Cornwall, making our way up to Scotland to see Edinburgh, Fort Williams, Isle of Skye then coming back down and spending some time in the Lake District and finally hanging out in London for a bit. Not far from where we were staying in Ucluelet, British Columbia is a lovely trail called the Wild Pacific Trail. Not to be confused with the longer and more popular West Coast Trail on Vancouver Island.
