The Cliffs of Moher

Make no mistake about it, this is one of the main attractions when you are visiting the Western Portion of Ireland. Most people have heard or read about the Cliffs but it is something totally different to experience this natural wonder in person. Did you know that the Cliffs of Moher is one of the locations in Harry Potter & the Half Blood Prince?!?!? The part where Harry Potter and Dumbledore are entering the cliff looking to destroy a Horcrux.

The Tower

We made an all day experience of this, we were based in Galway for the weekend. We knew before we got to Ireland that we should be prepared for all types of volatile weather. The particular day that we visited the Cliffs it was extremely windy and rainy. When I say it was windy, I’m talking about strong gusts of wind that make you very uncomfortable while you are cliffside. Dress for the weather and you will enjoy your day. I was layered up with a windbreaker/rain jacket and gloves.

We were planning on doing a boat trip to see the Cliffs from the Ocean but the wind was so strong that all of the boats were shut down for the day. Oh some advice, I was happy that I didn’t buy advanced tickets because I found that it was cheaper to buy the tickets when we arrived. They don’t do refunds, just transfer tickets to another day.

The Cliffs of Moher

We did this trip by ourselves and not with a travel company. As you can imagine there are lots of travel buses that go to this destination. We rented a car and drove out and while the roads are insanely skinny, we were able to stop along the roads and go through the day at our leisure. The Cliffs of Moher were about an hour and a half away from Galway.
